Radically better car rental arrives in Spain

16th September 2022

UFODRIVE, the world’s first all-electric, all-digital car rental company, continues its global expansion, with the launch of UFODRIVE Madrid this month, with more cities to follow soon.

UFODRIVE, the world’s first all-digital, all-electric car rental service controlled from an app, announces today the opening of UFODRIVE Madrid, the company’s first launch in the Spanish market, with more cities to follow soon. The very first Spanish UFOBAY, in Madrid’s popular Plaza de Colón, offers customers the convenience of an instant, 24/7 EV car rental service via their smartphones.

UFODRIVE is pioneering the electric car revolution and has redesigned the entire car rental process from the ground up. All-inclusive, keyless, and contactless, UFODRIVE is transforming the way we rent and making it easier than ever to access EVs. Customers and visitors to Plaza de Colón can now book and drive the latest premium EVs - including the Tesla Model S, Jaguar I-Pace, Audi E-Tron, and more - in minutes using UFODRIVE’s iPhone or Android app.

The inspiration to create a completely new kind of car rental service struck UFODRIVE CEO, Aidan McClean after many frustrating travel experiences. This motivated him to solve a problem he knows that many busy travelers are facing every day.

“Following another particularly poor customer experience to get a car at a major European airport involving a long queue, confusing insurance and extras options, pushy sales reps, a slow paper-based process and then trying to find the car, which wasn’t the model ordered, I decided there was going to be a better way,”  says Aidan McClean, UFODRIVE co-founder and CEO. “When I returned the car, I was hit with more unexpected charges. The whole cost doubled – I’d had enough!"

“At UFODRIVE we strive to offer a radically better car rental service that is easy and convenient. I founded UFODRIVE to enable customers to rent an EV in as little as two minutes from their smartphone, without any hidden charges or unnecessary hassle. And I am proud that we deliver a car rental experience that has the highest Net Promoter Score in the industry.”

“The future mobility experience is all-digital and EV-centric, and we are proud to launch UFODRIVE Madrid,”  says Trevor Toner, Managing Director of Rental, UFODRIVE. “The opening of our very first Spanish UFOBAY delivers on our vision to create a sustainable, eco-conscious business and an incredible customer experience – simple, fast, easy, and modern – combining the smartphone revolution with the growing electric car revolution. With UFODRIVE there are no hidden or unexpected charges, just transparent pricing, and a fleet of premium electric cars that all come with a customer-focused experience and value for money."

"Spain is a key market for us and there is a clear need for a modern EV rental service in Madrid. We could not have selected a better location than the Mobility Hub in Plaza de Colón, one of the capital’s busiest and most popular destinations for visitors and business travelers, all of whom can now benefit from the time-saving, convenience, and value of UFODRIVE’s modern, 24/7, smartphone-controlled service. All charging is included within the rental, so essentially zero fuel cost and we offer a deliver and collect service direct to your home or work. We look forward to providing the perfect customer experience for busy, time-pressed travelers looking to book one of our fleet of Teslas and other EVs directly via the UFODRIVE app.”

“We are especially proud to be launching the Madrid UFOBAY at the start of the seventh edition of the Madrid Electric Vehicle Fair (VEM) which will be held on the weekend of September 16 to 18 in Plaza de Colón. The fair, organized by the Business Association for the Development and Promotion of Mobility (Aedive) and the Madrid City Council, will make the capital “the nerve center of electric mobility” and we welcome any visitors to come and chat with us on stand C36!”

2022 has been a record growth year for UFODRIVE, with the company’s recent European and U.S. expansion following the announcement earlier this year of a $19 million Series A financing round, co-led by Hertz and Certares. UFODRIVE currently operates in San Francisco in the U.S. and in over 20 locations across Europe – including London, Paris, Berlin, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and Dublin – with ambitious plans for further expansion and new locations in a number of other major Spanish cities later this year.

UFODRIVE was recently named the winner of a Gold Stevie Award in the ‘Company of the Year – Transportation’ category in the 19th Annual International Business Awards and has been shortlisted for two National Sustainability Awards.
